Creating your quality of life plan... Gathering and Sharing information
You can’t create a plan to get where you want to go unless you know where you are right now. So the first important step in the actual creation of a quality-of-life plan is gathering and sharing information with people in your neighborhood. This information could include:
Survey information gathered as a part of interviews conducted in the community. Survey information reflects how people feel about your neighborhood and helps you get a handle on people’s ideas about the future.

Statistical information about the physical, social, and economic characteristics of your neighborhood. This provides a good basis for recommendations about the future of your neighborhood. A demographic profile of your neighborhood—who lives here and what are they like?—will help you understand the neighborhood’s needs, as well.

Other information, such as aerial photos, maps, and information regarding upcoming projects in the area.

Review existing plans, such as the Marion County Comprehensive Plan and Sub-Area Plans. Also, look at plans that may be unique to your neighborhood, such as a redevelopment plan or cultural corridor plan. For more specifics on existing planning documents, contact the City of Indianapolis Division of Planning.

Once you’ve gathered the information, you should make it available to all participants in the planning process. A presentation of your findings can become the first step in building momentum and interest in your neighborhood for upcoming phases in the quality-of-life planning process.
